Dear Cibolo Creek Quilt Guild,
You are my first Quilt 2 End ALZ presentation of the new year, and I am very excited to Zoom with you!
While you are logging on from Boerne in the heart of beautiful Texas Hill Country, I will be coming to you from vibrant Tulsa, Oklahoma where I live with my football coaching husband. We are recent empty-nesters, but luckily, our two kids are close by where they both attend the University of Tulsa.
In addition to quilting, I love sharing books, yoga, recipes, and all my favorite things on my personal blog: Me & Coach.
THE PROGRAM
Thank you very much for inviting me to share my story during your guild meeting!
I will go through a slide show that tells more about how our family has been affected by Alzheimer’s dementia, illustrates the basics of the disease, and explains how my volunteer and advocacy work led to me launching Quilt 2 End ALZ, Inc.
My talk lasts about 40 – 45 minutes, and I will be sure to leave time for any questions you have at the end.
THE WORKSHOP
When we log on the next day to sew together, I will walk you through our most recent TLD block: FLOWER SHOW
I’m putting your patterns in the mail on Thursday, so you will have your packet to explore and read through before our workshop.
The pattern includes step-by-step instructions for piecing the block as well as enough of our signature Flower Show fabric to use in two blocks, one for you to keep and finish in your own way, and one to send back to me to use in fundraising projects.
The block sews together very nicely!
Flower Show is a great block to use up your purple, red, gold, and white stash fabrics, and best of all, $20 from your class registration is donated to our Q2EA Longest Day team to support the Alzheimer’s Association.
In addition to those fabric scraps, you will need your usual sewing tools:
- rotary cutter and mat
- scissors
- rulers (I like having a long one as well as a smaller square for trimming my half-square triangles)
- a pencil
- thread, needle, pins
- iron and pressing mat or ironing board
- sewing machine
SEE YOU SOON
I hope your new year is off to a fantastic beginning, and I especially hope that it is allowing you lots of time to sew and quilt!
I look forward to meeting you next month –
With love and hugs,
Ashli
