Host a Quilt 2 End ALZ Longest Day Event!

who
Shop owners, guild program coordinators, quilt bees and sewing groups, quilters around the world… We invite you to lead your quilting community in the fight to end Alzheimer’s disease.
what
Created by the Alzheimer’s Association, The Longest Day is a program that helps individuals use their hobbies and passions to come together in community for a great cause. For quilters, The Longest Day is an opportunity to sew in honor of creating a world without Alzheimer’s disease and all dementia.
Every event will look a little different, so make your day exactly what you want. It could be a half-day workshop or a full-day sew-in. It could be your usual community sewing session with a purple theme, or you can throw a full-on purple party. No matter what you choose to do for Quilt 2 End ALZ 2023, it’ll be a day for raising awareness and funds to contribute to the fight to end Alzheimer’s. Whatever your format, Quilt 2 End ALZ, Inc. will support your efforts with a special quilt block pattern, marketing material templates, and other tools to help ensure that your event is a success.
when
While the official date for Quilt 2 End ALZ 2023 is Wednesday, June 21, 2023 to coincide with the longest day of the year (the day we can shed the most light on finding a cure to all dementia), each host schedules their Quilt 2 End ALZ 2023 event for whatever day and time fits their calendar. Here are a few suggestions to help you piggyback with annual awareness campaigns:
- June 21 – The Longest Day
- April – annual Alzheimer’s Association Facts & Figures update is released
- June – Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month
where
Fabric shop classrooms, guild workshop locations, local libraries, church fellowship halls, homes, or via Zoom. Anywhere quilters normally sew with friends and fellow quilters is the perfect place to host a Quilt 2 End ALZ 2023 event.
why
Because getting together with friends and fellow quilters is always a great idea! In addition, remember that more than 6 million people in America and over 55 million people worldwide are living with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementia. Those numbers are expected to double by 2050. Federal support and government funding is improving in areas of research and care, but there is no cure and access to treatment is critically limited. When we join together to quilt to end ALZ, education and knowledge about dementia increases, communities learn about support groups and services available locally, and funds are raised to benefit caregivers, research projects, and advocacy efforts. We can — and will — quilt to end ALZ.
