Today officially starts the third month of 2022 and I am so ready to tackle block three of Fleeting. It might look a little intimidating when you first look at it, but I promise it will come together easier than you think!
One of my favorite ways to play in quilt design is using color to create more complex spaces using the simple shapes we use over and over again. In this month’s block, I definitely leaned into that idea and had fun using it in mirrored lines to create a sort of frame that guides your eye into the center of the block.
As I mentioned last month, I have a very healthy fabric stash (much of which is gorgeous fabric that I may or may not actually have a project for yet) and a lot of that is bold designs that are perfect for fussy cutting and focal points. The center square in this month’s block isn’t huge, but the framing effect of the block’s design makes it a really fun one to try and highlight a special fabric in the middle if you’re doing a scrappy version.
I have finally faced the herculean task of organizing all of my fabric so now I should have plenty of time to dedicate a few hours each week to some one-on-one time with my machine. Still working on taking things one stitch at a time, but definitely making some progress and I hope you are too!
