2022 Block of the Month: April

April is here and so is block 4 of Fleeting! After a few months of smaller blocks, we’re kicking the month off with a fabulous, big, 24”x24” block. Big blocks seem to be all the rage right now, and with a modified Eight-Point Star medallion in the center, this one is a beauty.

We are more than a quarter of the way through 2022, and I can’t help but to come back to our theme this year, One Stitch at a Time. I don’t know about you, but I always seem to have a to-do list taller than I am. Because of this, I often feel a bit guilty when I do take time to focus on something “non-essential,” like quilting, and it feels very difficult to not multitask. If I’m still sort of working on something on that to-do list, I don’t have to feel quite as guilty for spending time quilting, right?

This month, I’m focusing on stomping that idea out of my mind.

For me, quilting is a hobby, a form of self-care, a chance to step back from everything else going on and play with pretty fabric and fun patterns. I want to be able to enjoy those moments with my sewing machine and really revel in my love of quilting without the guilt of feeling like I should be doing something else.

I also often find that when I do try to multitask while quilting, I cut incorrectly and spend a lot of time with my seam ripper… Neither of which makes my savored moments quilting more enjoyable!

So, my goal this month is to limit my multitasking as much as possible (in all areas of life!) and tell that guilty feeling to kindly get lost.

I hope you find some time this month to focus on the things you love without the guilt of everything else knocking at the door and that you enjoy making block 4 of Fleeting as much as I did!
