Last month I shared the 2021 Monthly Color Challenge hosted by Jen Shaffer.
If you missed it, please hop over to read my blog post all about January, eggplants, my passion for purple, and my favorite recipe for blackberry cobbler with homemade vanilla ice cream.
Up Next…
February’s featured fruit is the very lovely lemon.
I don’t actually love lemons. In fact, my lemon consumption typically begins and ends with a nice, extra sweet, cold glass of lemonade.
I do, however, love, love, love yellow.
It is more than my favorite color – it is my signature color!
Most people have a (as in one) yellow blouse or sweater. I have an entire section of yellows in my closet.
I even have a collection of yellow evening gowns:
I have yellow folders and yellow notebooks and yellow Post-It Notes in my office.
I have yellow quilts and blankets to snuggle under while relaxing on the couch.
My Air Pod case is yellow.
Even my wallet and change purse are both yellow.
I truly adore the energetic, happy feel of yellow!
For that reason, I’m focusing less on lemons and more on the bright and beautiful yellow aspect of this month’s challenge.
First Up: Food!
Last month I almost forgot to share my purple recipe, so I think we should do that first…
Drum roll, please!
To celebrate yellow fabric, yellow fruits, and yellow foods, I am very honored to share one of my family’s favorite breakfast options:
It needs only one pan plus three basic ingredients to create a warm, filling, wonderful breakfast. It is quick to make and easy to clean up. I’d call that a win-win-win!
And now, we quilt…
For this month’s block, Jen chose a two-tone, geometric pattern:
If there is a specific name for this block, I do not know it.
The light fabric looks like a spool of thread to me, but it also reminds me of bow ties and hourglasses that have been set in a pinwheel layout.
Whatever you choose to call them, they are very cute!
For my topper, I only need two of these blocks (the other three blocks for my yellow row won’t be unveiled until September):
That means I only needed two light yellows and two dark yellows.
Narrowing my yellow stash down to four fabrics was the most difficult part of this month’s sewing!
Once I selected my prints, the instructions use half-square triangles to form the contrast between the tips of the lighter “spools” on the darker background.
I did a thorough job of pressing between every step, so the blocks were very easy to piece and they lay nice and flat.
Lastly, I put the two blocks together where they will now have to wait patiently for their three yellow companions to come along later in the challenge.
2 Down, 10 to Go
Thank you for checking out my February blocks!
